Get inside the October hoola hoop scoop

Hello, lovely humans. Last month filled our studio with courage, confetti and a lot of smiles. Here is what we have been up to and what is coming next..

Tribute to the Stars wrap

Over four shows, more than five hundred people cheered through forty acts. Thank you for showing up, pushing through the nerves and supporting each other. The studio was buzzing, and our performers rose to the occasion. We saw flower-power brownie-eating silks picnics, prohibition gangsters, Nutbush line dancing, and a Thriller finale that had the room on its feet.

We celebrated first-time performers and quiet breakthroughs. My personal highlight was finally getting to splat Andy with a cream Pie on stage, something we have joked about for years. There is still glitter on the carpet and probably popcorn behind the curtains. I want to thank everyone for joining my "Stars in our lives" activity. We asked all our students and team to think of someone in their lives who encourages them to be the best version of themselves, someone who inspires them to be creative, and they look up to. We then wrote those names on stars, and it was beautiful to have a wall of stars showcasing people who are special to our students. Of course, everyone in the room was also a star, supporting the students to shine on stage.

Neverland needs you

This one is close to our hearts. Neverland: A World Worth Fighting For is a story about teamwork and standing up for what you believe in. In a modern twist of the classic Peter Pan story, Pirates have trashed the idyllic oasis of Neverland, and our Lost Girls and Peter are doing everything they can to set it right. Expect aerials, acrobatics and some silly skits, along with cameo performances from our staff as the Pirates and our adult performance development class as the Lost Girls. The show will leave you with a wry smile and a new appreciation of the classic story.

I need to be honest. Our Troupe have been working on this show all year, and we released tickets a month ago. While people have told us they are coming, currently ticket sales are very low. We do not have much room for a loss on this show. If you can come, please book now and bring someone who could use a night of wonder. If you cannot make it, sharing the link really helps us reach the people who would love it. Last year, we had sold-out shows, and I really want these kids to have their opportunity to have their hard work celebrated. I promise you will leave with a smile!

Classes for the final quarter

Term 4 starts tomorrow! Curious to start or return before the year ends. We have spaces in Discover Circus for ages 5–7Explore Circus for ages 8–12, plus adult aerials and tumbling. One class a week, billed monthly, all levels welcome. Embrace progress over perfection and be a part of a brave, safe space to try something new.

Around the grounds

This time of year is always busy at Roundabout, and you can see the sparkles and sequins from Showcase still floating in the air, plus there is more to come. The studio is humming, and students are buzzing after the showcase, ready for more performance opportunities. If you are keen, we have some student places available in Splashabout Showcase in November, so speak to your coach about how to get involved. A special thank you to Dani and Sasha of Duo AussieBela for coming home to share their premiere with us; it meant the world to our community to be a part of your journey. We just had an epic holiday, including a big trip to the Canberra Circus Festival, a 10-day activation at Roselands Shopping Centre, big OOSH groups visiting, major local events with Light Up and Coastal Twist, plus our regular holiday camp program. Who said holiday? Now we are getting ready for the term starting back, and we want to see who is the first to notice what's different in the studio. We’re now two weeks out from Neverland, a big highlight of the year on our calendar, and the cast is ready to sweep you away. If you can, grab your seats and bring a friend so we can fill the room with crocodile claps.

Thank you for sharing in our magic and for believing that nothing is impossible in the circus. We cannot wait to see you back in the studio this week in classes and in the audience for Neverland.

Rachel, Andy, and the Roundabout team.
