Get inside the March Hoola Hoop Scoop

Updated: Feb 27

Welcome back, everyone!

It feels like we blinked and suddenly everyone’s back at school, back at work and straight into the rhythm of the year. We’ve already hit the ground running at Roundabout, and I have to say, it’s shaping up to be another busy and exciting year.

We kicked things off by celebrating our 9th birthday, which still feels slightly surreal. Nine years of building this community, watching students grow up in the studio and seeing circus become a regular part of so many local events. Thank you to everyone who’s been part of that journey. It is such an honour, and I always enjoy taking those moments to reflect.

Chris Foy from Moving Content created this fantastic video story of our journey, where we reflect on how far we’ve come. Thanks again, Chris. It’s people like you, who’ve supported our reason for still going after nine years.

Love Lanes followed soon after, and what a fun event that was. Packed audiences, fresh performances, a busy playspace and that beautiful reminder of why we love popping up in the heart of the community.

Seeing all those familiar faces in the audience, current and previous students coming to cheer each other on and stopping by between shows to say hi. We LOVE Love Lanes ;)

We’ve got a big calendar ahead

You’ll see us at Girakool Blues at The Entrance, bringing our troupe back to Avoca Markets and keeping the energy flowing high at Lakes Festival.

Our regular favourites are all returning too, with a few new adjustments.

Fire and Flow is now once a term, so we can make it bigger and brighter. SPIRAL Coast is now at Gosford Waterfront, so we can share our flow with more people in the community.

Shows, Troupes and Studio Highlights

Roundabout Circus performing tea and circus

Back by popular demand, our AGM Tea and Circus Show will be a real treat.

Along with ALIAS Cabaret in May, our adults-only show, which sold out quickly last time, and our Troupe Production in August, which will give our Performance Troupe another moment under the lights, we’ve got plenty more in the works that we’ll share soon.

Over the summer holidays, we ran our Circus Dads School Holiday Show.

It was lovely to have our team member Anya back in the studio as she now works from Northern Rivers, helping with our social media. Her partner, Sheyzo and his balloons were a great hit. We also welcomed back Alicia Gonzales to run Fools Playground for adults, which is always equal parts brave, ridiculous and brilliant.

Did someone say UNLIMITED classes?

Inside the studio, we’ve updated our timetable and launched our Discovery Pass  after hearing from so many people that they wanted to try a few different classes before committing.

It’s flexible, it’s simple, and it gives you space to explore what you enjoy most. Classes are happening, with new options such as stretch and flex and handstands and conditioning, plus the most adult students we have ever had. We are loving it and looking forward to welcoming more.

A big, year ahead

This year is also the Year of the Fire Horse, the first time in 60 years we’ve seen this combination. It’s said to be about momentum, courage and action. Not waiting around or hesitating. Just doing the thing that you love most.

I quite like that. If there’s something you’ve been thinking about trying, this might be your year to bolt.

I can’t wait to see so many of you in the studio, out at events, and hopefully stepping into something new.

Here’s to a big year ahead!
