Student Spotlight- Bec's Solo Debut!!!

Bec has been with Roundabout for over 5 years but she has circus in her blood! Read about her Circus Journey

My journey with Roundabout started as a fun way for me to exercise and have a little me time as a busy, working mumma. As a retired gymnast (many years retired), I was looking to scratch that itch not many sports can. But my aerial classes quickly became so much more - a wonderful outlet for creativity, play and friendship.

I am so grateful for the multitude of benefits circus has given me. It’s keeps me fit and strong and keeps me young at heart. In a world of never ending “to do lists” and busy calendars, having a safe space to embrace wholesome fun is priceless. Most of all I’m thankful for the treasured friendships Roundabout has given me! I have loved getting to work with the beautiful teachers and classmates through multiple term 3 showcases and Splash-abouts as well.

This year I have loved the challenge of stepping up my performances with an appearance at Love Lanes and more recently my debut solo Alias performance. The experience of performing has given me such a thrill and just the right amount of pushing myself outside my comfort zone. I smile from ear to ear thinking about how special it has been to look out into the crowd and see my kids, hubby and family cheering me on! These are precious moments I will always hold dearly!

I often joke with my family and friends that I run away to circus each week. But I would have to say it’s actually in my blood. My Nanna and Pa had their own acrobatic act called the El Rebounds and they performed at many different venues well before I was born. My Dad and Aunty performed with them too. Something I have loved is keeping the family interest alive and getting my own kiddies to share in the world of circus. We even got to recreate an old photo of my Nanna, Pa, Dad and Aunty from a Woman’s weekly advertisement back in the day. Very special indeed!

How did your circus journey start? Or is it still on the horizon? Circus is a wonderful world that opens up when you are ready and once you discover it, there will always be a moment or a memory that brings a smile. Let us know if you want to share your circus journey with us
